Shoulder Dislocations

Shoulder dislocation occurs when the top of the arm bone (humerus) detaches from the shoulder blade (scapula). Dislocation must be reduced quickly and at time requires anesthesia. Long term treatment requires Physical Therapy or surgical repair to reduce subsequent dislocation. Once the area has been repositioned, you may be discharged with a mobilizer sling and a prescription for anti-inflammatory medication.
